Symptoms

Customer reported:

  • Windows could not properly enable HDR.
  • Native resolution operation appeared to fail.
  • Customer suspected the display controller board was limited to 1080p operation.
  • Linux systems operated normally.

Investigation

The CCHW3000-2K-D29 uses the LG LM300WQ6 panel with a native resolution of 2560 × 1600 @ 60Hz.

Engineering verification confirmed that the monitor controller board supports:

  • HDMI input
  • DisplayPort input
  • 2560 × 1600 @ 60Hz operation

Photos and test results verified successful operation at the native resolution.

Root Cause

The issue was traced to the customer's source PC.

The source computer was equipped with an HDMI 1.4 interface, which could not fully support the Microsoft HDR requirements being used.

When the monitor was connected to a computer with HDMI 2.0, the display operated correctly and HDR functioned normally.

Linux systems also worked correctly because Linux did not enforce the same HDR compatibility requirements as Windows.

Resolution

  1. Verify the graphics card and HDMI version of the source PC.
  2. For HDR applications, use:
    • HDMI 2.0 or newer
    • DisplayPort connection (recommended)
  3. Update graphics drivers and operating system.
  4. Test the monitor using another HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort source.
  5. Confirm Windows HDR compatibility requirements are met.

Important Notes

Before concluding that a monitor controller board cannot support the native resolution:

  • Verify the source device specifications.
  • Verify the cable supports the required bandwidth.
  • Verify HDMI version compatibility.
  • Verify graphics card capabilities.
  • Verify operating system HDR requirements.

In this case, the monitor was operating according to specification and the issue was caused by source-side HDMI limitations rather than the display itself.

Case Outcome

Status: Resolved

Resolution: Customer confirmed the issue originated from the PC's HDMI 1.4 interface. Connecting the CCHW3000-2K-D29 to a system with HDMI 2.0 resolved the HDR and display functionality issue.

Customer Confirmation:

"The issue comes from the PC side. The PC has HDMI 1.4 port and cannot support Microsoft HDR. When connected to PC with HDMI 2.0 it works fine."
